London Collections: Men MAN Show

In its eighth consecutive year, MAN (a joint initiative run by Topman and Fashion East) returns to take centre stage at London Collections: Men.

This year the designers hand picked to show their collections were, Astrid Andersen, Agi & Sam and Craig Green who were all selected by Fashion East for their innovative designs. Astrid Andersen and Agi & Sam have been supported by and showcased their work with MAN for three years now with Craig Green joining them for his début show for AW13.

Astrid Andersen began the show with a strong 90's theme running through her collection which didn't look too dissimilar to the outfits worn by Will Smith in 'The Fresh Prince'. This aside, her collection was based around her signature sportswear style, experimenting with new silhouettes and techniques which fuse the world of sportswear with that of high fashion. Deep lilac hues mix with sandy coloured browns with the occasional double denim and icy turquoise thrown in creating a distinctly luxurious colour spectrum.

Agi & Sam (Agape Mdumullla and Sam Cotton) created a collection reminiscent of Brideshead Revisited. Crisp white suits covered in a pale blue pattern paired with brogues, electric blue overcoats, Bassett hounds and enough plaid to fill at Scottish castle were the key looks from the show. Models varied in ages from late teens to men with long bushy grey beards and walking sticks giving the show a Sherlock Holmes feel to it.

Monochrome is the theme of the show for recent Central Saint Martins graduate, Craig Green. Known for his dramatic, Guilliermo del Toro style headpieces, Craig Green experimented with different textures of calico basing the collection around a colour scheme of dark green and black. The models had their bodies painted to match the garments taking monochrome to a new level and seamlessly blending the clothes to the models and the models to the headdresses. Avant Garde. Dark. Mystical. However you want to describe Craig Green's début show, one thing is for sure, he has tapped into the imaginations of many, inspiring them to discover more about his work.
