Menswear Monday: David Gandy

When it comes to discussing menswear, the name David Gandy is never far away. He is known across the globe for his glamorous D&G campaigns, his entertaining blog on Vogue.com and of course, his high profile work promoting the British fashion industry. Without question, Gandy is the most influential male model of our day and definitely the best dressed of the lot.

From wanting to become a vet to becoming a top fashion model, Gandy has risen through the ranks but he has done it all on his terms. At the time when Gandy signed a deal with Select Model Management, many (if not all) male models were channelling the super thin, androgynous look sported by their female counterparts. Gandy however, chose to hit the gym and bulk up, resulting in becoming the face for the D&G 'Light Blue' campaign. The rest, as they say, is history.

Today, Gandy has grown to become style icon for a generation of young men searching for a sharp, classic look. Rarely do you see a photo of David Gandy in casual, relaxed clothes. He is the king of the tailored jacket and the crisp, cotton shirt. The impeccable attention to detail, luxurious quality and sly playfulness that embody Gandy's outfits not only allow him to stand out from the rest of the fash pack but they also make his style accessible to all. Everyone can look at an outfit worn by David Gandy and pick out at least on or two things they can incorporate into their wardrobe. Be it adding a patterned pocket square to an everyday suit or only fastening the first button on suit jacket, there are simple style notes that can be applied to any man's wardrobe.

Wherever David Gandy goes, he causes a sensation. People want to be seen with him, many want to look like him and some are just curious as to how he always manages to create an outfit that even the most sartorially snobby will be proud to be seen in. This is the sign of a true style icon and David Gandy is exactly that. Take note guys!

  2. Not only is he a fashion icon but, he's probably the most desired man on planet earth. With the best selling novel, Gabriel's Inferno and Gabriel's Rapture captivating the female population, he has become the beloved Professor Gabriel O. Emerson. We can only hope a movie will be in his future.

    1. Ms. Trotten. I hope your comment is a prediction because I have been longing to see the devastating Mr. Gandy in a full length film. As we saw in the short film Away We Stay, he's unbelievably photogenic and a natural when it comes to his delivery, so sexy, isn't it possible to get him to pose for book covers so that producers can see him dressed as the character. It would make you more money than you ever dreamed also because people would buy more posters of book covers than cookies or cupcakes. I know I would.
