Mexicana Madness for SS13

Mexico has been getting a lot of press these last few weeks with the Mayans predicting the end of the world but it is not that which has caught my eye. Anyone who follows the Moda de la Mode Pinterest account can see that I am totally convinced that I was Mexican in my past life. You will then, understand my ecstatic reaction when I was looking back at the SS13 collections and discovered the whole wealth of Mexican influences that designers had used for their collections.

Some collections were more explicit than others but the message was clear. SS13 will be a time of Mexicana  madness. Be it vivid, bright colours or Frida Kahloesque florals the world is going crazy for a taste of Mexico.

Maya Hansen, fashion designer born and raised in Madrid, Spain featured exotic colours and typical Mexican iconography in her designs for SS13 shown at Madrid fashion week.

Dolce & Gabbana's SS13 collection provided us with an eclectic mix of Sicilian and Mexican influences brought together by zesty oranges, cute multi coloured pompoms and delicate florals.

Mara Hoffman took us on a journey through Hawaii, verging on Mexico and Africa for her SS13 collection. The collection originated from just one word 'Aloha' and took us around the world in an array of Aztec prints.

Boy by Band of Outsiders comes as a result of a boy girl split causing Band of Outsiders to form into two bands. For SS13, Boy by Band of Outsiders, worked with texture and colour to create a modern, exotic theme which you could argue has links to Mexican society.

Tory Burch also took part in the fiesta, showcasing a range of styles that she felt reflected her personality. Whilst being a distinctly American brand, Tory Burch brought in global influences to express her love of travel and collecting. The blue shirt reminds me of the Mayan calendar and the woven bag with the tassels is a perfect mix of Latin American prints, colours and textures.

With all these collections to inspire you this season, go fetch yourself a bottle of Tequila, sing Tragos de Amargo Licor and discover your inner Mexican.
