LONDON COLLECTIONS: MEN | ASTRID ANDERSEN

Somehow, Astrid Andersen managed to make men in lace body suits and hot pants look masculine for Spring Summer 2014. The designer's usual influence of baseball and Americana was still very much apparent but it seems that this season the brand has become allot more experimental in its designs and fabric choices. With either lots of exposed flesh or garments so tight that they become practically a second skin or in some cases both, the wear ability of the collection is questionable. However it receives top marks for imagination and a reinvention of the baseball look that seems to have been played out a little too much in the urban menswear market in the past year or so.

Long tunic tops and white vests with fluffy textile supersized logos were fun and true to the brands aesthetic providing the new spin on the original look but whether the lace and crop tops for men were fabulous or a step too far is yet to be decided. One thing is for sure – Astrid Anderson captured her audience’s imagination and provided a thought provoking juxtaposition between feminine and masculine that highlights the shift in menswear into more extreme styles.
